By default firewalls don't filter outgoing connections, while they block 
incoming connections on all ports (or almost). You have to set up a rule 
in your firewall to accept incoming connections on <firewall's IP>:5500 
and redirect them on <VNC machine's IP>:5500.
For example, if you use IpCop you'll find the rules' list under the 
"firewall" menu, "port forwarding" submenu. Other firewalls, as Digicom 
modems' service, have a "virtual server" setup page.
