The purpose for most non-moderator people applying filter is that they want
to sort messages by content. Now hardly 1% of the people on the mailing list
would want to archive ALL the messages that come on the list.
Also, putting that tag in the subject line gives more flexibility for
applying filters. Those who might not want to use it still can use their old
scheme.

But then there is hardly any(suggest one if you know any) way to filter msgs
related to this mailing list, which under 99% times are sent by reply all
and clog the main inbox. So in any case if you want to keep it in the inbox
its fine. Most other mortals (like me) might like to filter them and you got
to keep some facility to do that.
