Hi,

Sun's "Personal Basis Profile" (PBP) reference implementation runs
on top of a Sun-modified version of Microwindows. Unfortunately
the modifications are very major - it's hard to recognize that
it's based on Microwindows! Their modified Microwindows can be
downloaded from http://www.experimentalstuff.com/ , and is MPL'd.
PBP is available under the SCSL, from
http://java.sun.com/products/personalbasis/
(Note that SCSL is not on the OSI list of 'open source' licenses).

PBP doesn't include the Java widget set - i.e. you get a subset
of java.awt including (amongst others) Component, Container,
Graphics, Image, and BufferedImage, but you don't get Button or
List.

"Personal Profile" (without the "Basis" part) will include the
widget set (for Applet support), but probably won't be based
on Microwindows. PP is being defined in JSR 62:

Yes, PBP and PP are the high end of the J2ME family.

I've surfed about and read the archives and there is talk of Kaffe...
but nothing really new in there.... what is the latest status with
reference to a JVM for mwin? I suppose AWT would present a problem
because of no "native" widgit sets... Preferably something with j2me
would be nice.... but that's a little more complex because of whole
ultra-high level API for GUI's and soft buttons.

 (back, for now)
