I had the same problem with my Scanjet 2200C and nothing I tried worked until
I simply unplugged the USB cable from the scanner and plugged it back in
(while in Linux). The scanner then worked with the plustek backend no
problem.
I don't know if a solution this easy would work, but try it out anyway (if you
haven't already).
