You do not need the plustek driver, as this is only useful
for parallel port scanners.
If you use SANE-1.0.8 this should be enough.
How does your sane.d/dll.conf looks like, and what about
the sane.d/plustek.conf file
Enable the debug output of the backend and send it
to the list:
export SANE_DEBUG_DLL=255
export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK=12
scanimage -L
