I need this feature, does someone working on this thing?
If not i want to do it, but i would like if some people might give me some
hints about the programming API and other resources which might be usefull
(Where to get protocol specs?).

short outline what i need/want to do:
- a deamon which opens the device and waits for button events
- high customizeable configuration which will run scripts on defined
button events (turn scanner on/off, diffrent copy modes and so on) i'm
need it to run it without further interaction with the computer (no GUI
pops up in my case .. but might still be configureable)

It would be easy to release the USB port while executing some scripts. But
when a user fires up some sane-gui the backend needs some support for
signaling the button-daemon to release the USB port, any suggestions for a
general interface to do such? (pidfiles/signals or local socket)

Further a unused mouse might be used to provide buttons for
buttonless-scanners.

cya Christian
