Subject: EPP in 2.4.19 works only with IEEE 1284 support

I have written:
(2) when I use 2.4.17 kernel EPP mode is detected OK by parport_pc (module
compiled WITH IEEE 1284) , but with
2.4.19 (no IEEE 1284 ) I get only PCSPP in
/proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/modes

I have seen the following code in pc_parport.c (2.4.19):

#else /* No IEEE 1284 support */

/* Don't bother probing for modes we know we won't use. */

That means IEEE 1284 support is REQUIRED to get EPP. Plustek driver
documentation recommends to switch this mode OFF. Any comments?

seems to be tested with 2.4.9. What about later kernels?

P.S. I would appreciate if anyone who has Plustek OpticPro PT12 running
under 2.4.17+ (scanning slides/negatives) would send me his config files.
