Hi Bret,

The pt_drv.o driver is for parallel scanners. From the information below, I
conclude that your Canon is a usb scanner.
I don't have the Canon, but I do have a USB model.

In my /etc/modules.conf I have a line like yours with the 'options scanner'.
I created a symbolic link from /dev/usb/scanner0 to /dev/usbscanner, since
most sane software seems to depend on it. Before I start a Sane application,
I
have to execute a 'modprobe scanner' to load the USB scanner driver.
(Although this can be automated to be done at boot time by putting the
statement in
the rc.local file I believe.) The modprobe goes alright, then you can try to
start any Sane application to see if the scanner has been detected.
