Greetings!
I have a new HP2200C, Sane 1.0.8, Xsane 0.86 and sane-plustek 0.42 on a
Mandrake 8.2 installation. The HP has a worrying problem at the start
of the scan, when the motor makes a nasty noise for a few seconds as if
it were trying to move the head back to the start position even though
it is already there. This happens _after_ the lamp warm-up time,
although in plustek-usbhw.c it appears that any such move happens before
warm-up (I'm not a C programmer so I have almost certainly missed
something. ;-(
I have also tried the "lm9832" backend by ? Ludo Stellingwerff which
does not have the same problem, so I do not think that it's a hardware
fault. (The "lm9832" backend is not as well integrated with Sane as the
Plustek, so I'd rather use the Plustek.)
There is another difficulty, that I am having trouble getting reasonable
default gamma settings. The scans returned require the gamma to be
taken to the maximum (3.0) for scanning reasonably exposed photgraphs,
which leaves litte scope for getting the brightness and contrast right,
(or they are very sensitive). Does anyone have suggestions for the
default settings to use?
Thanks for any help,
Mike
